Hello, I am remodeling a bathroom with a shower (no tub). I have replaced the leaking 2" trap and I am getting ready to install a new marble shower receptor. I purchased a Jones Plumbest 2" D40-140 no-caulk brass drain fitting that comes with a compression gasket for the riser pipe, and 2 gaskets for the brass flange above and brass tightening ring below.

I have 2 questions
1) The first question is with the 2 gaskets. One is a thick (1/16") black neoprene-type gasket and the other is a thin fiber-type gasket. Which gasket goes on top (between the drain flange and the receptor top) and the which goes on the underside of the receptor?
2) Should I really trust the no-caulk claim or should I use plumbers putty ( in the void between the fitting and the oversized basin hole, along with some sealant on the gaskets?

Hello, I searched the board and I think I have found the answer to my question regarding gaskets. I've concluded the sealing should be in this order, from top to bottom.. . Brass flange, rope of plumber's putty, basin body, rubber gasket, friction gasket, brass tightening ring. Do I have it right ? Also, I still have the question on the no-caulk. Should I use any sealant on the gasket surfaces?

You are correct on the order of the way the drain is installed. About the no-caulk gasket. What does the manufacture say about lubricant? Some suggest using dish detergent, others suggest using a Teflon based lubricant, what you can't use is any type of petroleum based lubricant as it will cause the neoprene gasket to deteriorate. No instructions came with the fitting. I will use either soapy water (to aid with the tightening) or perhaps teflon lubricant. Is there any advantage to filling in the void between the fitting and the oversized basin hole with plumber's putty, or should I just limit the putty to a small bead of between the flange and the basin?
