    New floor drain in basement
I'm a rookie here and hope to find some information. I am currently finishing my basement (concrete floor) and I'm going to install a steam room. The steam room requires a floor drain and I'm looking to put it about 18" to 24" from the existing ruffed in shower drain in the nearby bathroom. My questions are these:
    1) is this job too big for a rookie?
    2) how much should expect to pay to have a plumber do this for me?
    3) if a plumber is needed, could I simply brake up the concrete for him to lessen the financial blow in having a plumber come to my house?
    Thank you!

Not if you're handy and have basic plumbing skills.
    2) how much should expect to pay to have a plumber do this for me?
You're asking for a estimate without having ever seeing the job or knowing what plumbers wages are in your area. Can't do that!
    3) if a plumber is needed, could I simply brake up the concrete for him to lessen the financial blow in having a plumber come to my house?
If you know the location of your main you could save big bucks by jackhammering up the cement and trenching from the main over to where the floor drain will be located. Good luck, Tom

Thanks. I think I will hammer it up and see what I can do... and keep my plumber's number ready. Thank you!

I recently purchased a 30 year old home in Fairfax County VA. It is a 2 story house with a basement. The floor drain in the basement is overflowing when the condensate from the air conditioner flows into it. I put a metal rod down and hit what feels like gravel. Would this drain go to the...

We have a cast iron basement floor drain with no valve to prevent backflow. Can you put such a valve in an iron pipe and, if so, would I have to go to a plumbing specialty store to get one? The ones at Home Depot are only meant for plastic pipe. If I have to convert to plastic, what is the best...
