    Main water line in basement
HI There, I have some water (a trickle) coming in around the main pipe coming up from the floor in my basement. It is before the shut off, and I was wondering if it is the pipe itself or could it be water seeping up from below? Rainstorm was about 3 days ago.
Also, I had just shut off the main last night to do some other (unrelated) work.
It it possible that the surge from turning it back on may have further cracked an already weak pipe? House was built in 1951. The pipe feels solid. However I dared not try to move it too much. If it goes, all hell breaks loose. :)

If the pipe is bad, can the concrete be broken out and the pipe repaired? Or do I need to contact the city?

Thanks in advance for any help

Dl municipalities are not responsible for anything past their water meter. The service line is the ower's responsibiility. I wouldn't bother with the city for any help in your situation.

If you know where your water meter is and can access it, one way to check for a leak is to make sure all faucets and fixtures in your home are turned completely off. Make sure to turn of your ice maker box behind your refrigerator, your washing machine box behind the washing machine and all outside hose bibs. You can then go to the meter and look at the wheel indicators to see if they are moving. If you have everything turned off in the house and the wheels are spinning, you have a water leak. No leak and the wheels should not be turning.

That's the first place I'd start to check for a water leak in your pipes.
