Hello,

We had our bathroom fitted at the end of the last year. We're having problems with the cold water. Most of the time we only get a trickle of water coming through sometimes we don't get any cold water to the point the toilet stops filling up. We have contacted the company who fitted the bathroom and he keeps telling us that we are getting an airlock and there is nothing we can do. He also keeps saying that our cold water tank is too small. The cold water was absolutely fine prior to the refit and we are not using any more cold water than before.

Is he just fobbing us off?

That's not the term I would use but, yes, the plumber's blowing smoke up your skirt. This is not air or vapor lock. Let me blow his lame excuse away! In an open loop system (domestic water system, not a closed system or a system used for heating) you can not have an air lock. And I'll bet the farm your pressure tank's just fine. What I think has happeded here is that when he worked on the pipes he disturbed some minerals built up in the pipe walls and the crud got sucked up into your cold water system where it's now clogging up the system. The solution would be to flush the cold water pipes out and then open up and check and clean the inlet ports on the cartridges of all the faucets affected. This is time consuming and a hassle so your plumber wants to distance himself from it. But that doesn't wash in my book because he caused it in the first place. This should be taken care of under warranty at no cost to you.
