    Kitchen water smells really bad
    Hi,
We have been having a problem with the water from our kitchen faucet, and only our kitchen faucet, no where else in the house has the smelly water. My husband thinks it smells like rotten egg, I think it smells like sewer! It is very bad in the morning and smells occasionly throughout the day.
The problem started about a month ago during a dry spell around here. We have a well and figured that was maybe the problem. But we have had plenty of rain around here in the last couple of weeks and it hasn't gone away.
As I mentioned, we have a well, public sewer and a small culligan house filter in the basement where the water line comes in. I was reading some other posts and wanted to mention we do have a fridge with water in the kitchen and that filter probably does need replaced.
All that being said, could you please give us some advice?
    Thanks,

    Melanie

P.S. I am arguing with my husband that the reason it only smells in the kitchen is because we have some kind of bad gas in our water and the kitchen sink is the highest spot in the water system so all the bad gas rises there. He thinks it is a ridiculous theory. Please help me be right.:D

    Hey Melanie,

"P.S. I am arguing with my husband that the reason it only smells in the kitchen is because we have some kind of bad gas in our water and the kitchen sink is the highest spot in the water system so all the bad gas rises there. He thinks it is a ridiculous theory. Please help me be right. "

No theory's rtdculous unless it's absolutely impossible. And while yours is a stretch it's possible. However, it's more likely you've picked up some bacteria that's now living in your kitchen faucet.

Try this, remove the aerator from the spout and clean the screens, reassemble and soak it in bleach for 30 minutes. Try the water without the aerator on and tell me if the smell's still there. I'm waiting on you. Tom

    Hi Tom,

Thank you for answering so quickly. We took the aerator off and soaked it like you said. My husband said it really smelled bad! The smell is gone. I will check it tomorrow morning as that is when it was usually the worst.

Too bad my bad rising gas theory didn't pan out!;) I can never win the home repair arguments!

    Thanks again,
    Melanie
