    Installing shower in the basement
    Is there a method to install a stand up shower in the basement WITHOUT having to dig down to install the drain part (elbow)??
    I can put the shower in the corner where the master drain is located.

    Hey speedpiper...

    There is a way! Check out this link:

    Then you want to scroll down the page and find information on the SANISHOWER.

    This method will require you to build a platform... and you will still need to add a PTRAP and a vent to the shower drain piping as well as connect the discharge pipe from the sanishower pump into main waste line in home.

    The sanishower will also require a vent... this vent CAN connect into the shower vent and then the shower vent will need to connect into a vent in the home.

    Check out the link and sanishower system. There should also be instuctions on how to install this unit (pdf.file).

    Much cheaper and less noisy by the way is to chip open the concrete floor and pipe this so drain flows via gravity drain....you will need a ptrap and a vent here as well!!

    Mark's bang on when he suggests breaking up the floor, removing the floor drain and installing a trap and raiser after you figure out just where the trap will set in relation to the drain in the shower base and enclosure. If you're planing a custom tile shower the trap will not have tom be moved. As Mark pointed out you will have to vent your shower. This ncan be done with a vent through the roof or revented back to a existing roof vent. If applicable a Air Admittance Valve may be used in place of a vent through the roof.
    Would you like the easiest way to get a basement shower? We had a basement shower in the house I grew up in. Using the floor drain as a shower base simply install a shower valve assembly on the wall. Use a circular shower curtain to enclose theshower. That way you won't have any drainage or vent to hassle at at all. Just a suggestion. Regards Tom
