How Do I Fix This Problem With the Water?
I live in a borough with city sewers. I live in a semi-detached house. My neighbors water and sewer and all the water and sewer in my house back up into my basement sink. Two months ago I paid for a plumber to come out and snake the line. Now today this same problem started happening again. The water backs up into the basement sink then when the water stops overflowing the water left in the sink goes down the drain and out into the sewer. When I flush a toilet on my first floor it bubbles in the kitchen sink less then thirty feet away. It then travels to the sink in the basement in which it comes up and then goes down once all the water is brought back up. Where might this clog be? Could the clog be on my neighbors side but I'm the only one with pressure to push the water out?

The drainage in your duplex's tied together. Unfortunately the blockage's downstream of where the other unit connects to the sewer. This, in my book, puts the clog in a "common area" in a sewer shared by both units and the cost should be split among you.
Have the plumber open up the house cleanout and check for standing water. If so then snake to the street. If not then snake from the basement sink roof vent. Good luck, Tom
