    Garbage disposal
I want to put a garbage disposal in my restaurant but I am not sure if it will work with my sink. I have a standard commercial sink with about a 1 1/2" drain.

Can anyone tell me what is involved if anything to complete this project?

Residential kitchen sink are also 1 1/2" drains. Remove the entire basket, the garbage disposer has its own replacement basket that allow the unit to connect from underneath.

I am not referring to the drain pipe, but to the hole in the sink itself.

    Hi Ceke586...

All residential kitchen sinks and all commercial sinks (except hand sinks and lavatories) have a standard size hole in them to accept strainers or garbage disposals.

You will be fine installing a residential disposal or even a larger batch feed commercial disposal.

Let me know if have any more questions...

I think you are not getting correct info from other plumbers: You have to have 3" drain opening for regular garbage disposer installaion

That illustration was great, but still will not help me. Just tell me how to install one on a utility sink. (hand sink) That is the size the drain hole is on my sinks.

    Ceke...

I think we're getting hung up on some terminology and measurements here...

You said you had a STANDARD COMMERCIAL SINK with an 1 1/2" drain... and we told you that any standard commercial sink will be able to fit any disposal... any standard commercial sinks except HAND SINKS.. (see post #4 and post#6)...

Now at post #8 you are telling us it is a UTILITY SINK and finally a HAND SINK..?

So, if you have a HAND SINK with 1 1/2" hole in sink ...you cannot install a disposal on it as originally posted at post#4.

Hope that resolves this for you... ;)
