I have an 800’ well with a non pressurized tank and a 1 horse jet pump the tank is full to the top and the air control valve seams to be working there is no blockage in the 1/8” lines on the pressure switch or the air control valve. But the pump starts as soon as the water is turned on and runs a few seconds and the shuts off at 50 psi the pressure switch is new. What is the problem? I have had shallow well pumps all my life and this is my first deep well (No Clue)

Sounds like you have a submerged pump, several hundred feet down. It pumps into a holding tank. You then pump out of the holding tank with the jet pump. If that is correct, what does the jet pump go into... a pressure tank? And, which pump are you referring to when you say it only pumps a few seconds?

By non pressurized do you mean you do not have a bladder tank? That is to say, you have a galvanized pressure tank. Sounds like you also have an air control valve. Shallow well and deep well operate basically the same.

Or do you mean you have a storage tank with a float valve?

My understanding is that the air control valves are prone to failure.

The symptoms you described indicate a water logged tank.

Confirm that you do not have a bladder tank, then turn off the pump, open the drain valve and at least one faucet. Drain the tank. Close drain valve and turn on pump. That will restore air to the tank.

You may want to replace the air control valve.

CORDY 84. You can turn the water off any time you want. We have a second home in the GA mountains and always turn the water off when we leave. You will need a valve wrench or if lucky, a crescent wrench.

    Cordy...

You want to shut off the main water shutoff and also shut your water heater gas valve knob (if present) to the pilot or vacation setting or if you have an electric water heater shut off the electrical breaker. Reverse when you arrive home.

This saves hassles and money! :)

PS: If you touch the gas valve knob remember what it was set to originally so you can set it back to the original setting when you get back.
