    Flushed toy
    Hi Everyone,

My almost 3 yr. old grandson flushed a toy about 2" long about an 1" long down our
Toilet. Now it doesn't flush all the way. I can't afford to hire a plumber so is there any
Way I can fix this myself? Any help that you all can give me will be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you,
    Nannette

    Hi Nannette,

Purchase a closet auger,(see image) and see if you can pull nit back. Your only other option would be to pull the toilet and attempt to fish the toy out from the bottom. This is a dirty messy job best left to us dirty messy plumbers. But try the auger first. Good luck, Tom

Being that it's that big I recommend trying to get it out rather than using a closet auger to try to knock it loose.

See if your grandson can reach it himself. If he cannot, then you need to drain the toilet, remove it from the floor, turn it upside down (very carefully so you don't knock the tank loose) and extract it from the underside hole.

I still say. "try the auger first"! You have nothing to lose. The auger can auger into the plastic and pull it back. Pulling the toilet and going in from the bottom involves removing all the water out of the tank and bowl you can and sponging out the rest, pulling the toilet and laying it over on its side, (careful, there's still a gallon left in the trap) and fishing out the toy with a bent clothes hanger. Then you will have to get a new wax seal and reinstall the toilet. Not a project for the faint of heart. Try the auger first! Good luck, Tom

Accidentally, the deodorant stick was flushed this morning and disappeared. Although paper seems to be flushing, it's terribly sluggish and slow. I used wet vac to try to retrieve, but no luck. Any recommendations before I call a plumber? Thanks!
