Fleck water softner flashing service icon
I have a Fleck 5600SXT electronic metered water softener that was in the house when I bought it. The softener appears to be working normally, but I have a question on the flashing service icon to determine if it is actually operating normally.

After a normal(demand)regeneration, the service icon (looks like a water faucet)will sometimes stay solid, and other times will flash. Per the instruction manual,a flashing icon indicates that a regeneration has been queued; pressing the extra cycle button cancels it, and pressing it again recalls it. When I leave it flashing, the softner seems to have a shorter time (days) between regeneration.

Since this is a "demand" type softener, why would the unit que up (flashing icon) a regeneration at all? The manual refers to the reserve capacity, and if depleted, it could regenerate. Hmmmmm,

An explanation would be greatly appreciated... thanks... mjs

There is a day override setting for the valve. Yours may be set to override sooner then the hardness setting programmed in control. Or the hardness setting may be set too high. Have you had a water analysis to determine the water chemistry to set the unit up properly?

I had the water anlayzed at the county health department, and I confirmed the program settings through an internet search and also with a call to a local water softener company. I guess I'll watch the regeneration cycles and look into the over ride setting.

Operator error -did'n mean to quote myself. As for the over ride setting, I guess I'll call the softener co. again and get more detail and describe the situation in more detail.. Thanks for a starting point.

The manual shows how to turn off the override setting. It is adjustable from Off - 99days.
What is the water chemistry and how many people?
