Flapper on Toilet - fixed it, but still have a ?
OK, I'm putting on my plumbing cap today! One of our toilets was constantly making a running water sound. When I opened it up, it appeared to me that the Flapper was very old and that was where the water was leaking into. I replaced the new flapper successfully (it was pretty easy! ) and now the water is not making any leaking sounds (drip drip drip) into the main basin. Here's my problem though, when flushing, you now have to hold down the flush handle for about 8 seconds to have the entire tank empty, whereas before you could just flush and it would empty the tank fine. I tried adjusting the length of the chain which hasn't made any real difference. Now I'm wondering if I should also purchase a new flush handle? I'm just wanting not to have to hold down the handle or have my guests not have to hold down the handle... Is there something else I should be trying in order to have the handle work properly, so one simply pushes down on the handle, releases in a second and it registers to drain the entire tank? Thanks...

Sounds like a chain adjustement to me. Can you measure the chain from the old flapper for a reference?

    Hi Mom, Welcome back.

Did you cut the ring off the new flapper before you installed it on the hooks?
The chain adjustment wants to have 1/4" of play when the flapper's seated.
A new flush lever won't help so save your money. Check the ring, adjust the chain and get back to me. Regards, Tom

Flapper will not close properly [ 5 Answers ]

 Hi, it appears that there is a lot of good plumbing advice here. Here's my problem. I have had problems with the flush valve on my 3.5 gallon one-piece Crane toilet for about the past month. I have replaced the old flapper, a white plastic frame with a cup on one end and a flapper on...

Probably a boring question: Flapper sticking in toilet [ 1 Answers ]

The flapper in the toilet is sticking in the open position causing the toilet to run (unless someone jiggles the handle to get the flapper to close). The chain was twisted around the handle, but has since been fixed. The flapper continues to stick for no apparent reason. Suggestions? Thanks.

Flapper closes to soon [ 4 Answers ]

I have a low flush toilet that has a problem. When you flush it instead of pushing the handle down and walking away you have to stand there and wait for the water to drain. I took the tank top off and looked in side. This is the kind of toilet that has the floater that is a cylinder on the input...
