    Flapper on Toilet - fixed it, but still have a ?
    OK, I'm putting on my plumbing cap today! One of our toilets was constantly making a running water sound. When I opened it up, it appeared to me that the Flapper was very old and that was where the water was leaking into. I replaced the new flapper successfully (it was pretty easy! ) and now the water is not making any leaking sounds (drip drip drip) into the main basin. Here's my problem though, when flushing, you now have to hold down the flush handle for about 8 seconds to have the entire tank empty, whereas before you could just flush and it would empty the tank fine. I tried adjusting the length of the chain which hasn't made any real difference. Now I'm wondering if I should also purchase a new flush handle? I'm just wanting not to have to hold down the handle or have my guests not have to hold down the handle... Is there something else I should be trying in order to have the handle work properly, so one simply pushes down on the handle, releases in a second and it registers to drain the entire tank?     Sounds like a chain adjustement to me. Can you measure the chain from the old flapper for a reference?

    Hi Mom, Welcome back.

    Did you cut the ring off the new flapper before you installed it on the hooks?
    The chain adjustment wants to have 1/4" of play when the flapper's seated.
    A new flush lever won't help so save your money. Check the ring, adjust the chain and get back to me. Regards, Tom
