This uldtimber just stumbled upon you folks, and hope that some one might be able to help out. I am renovating an old, but beautiful old bathroom. It has American Standard fixtures,
and I am searching for parts: specifically: hot and cold water parts that consist of an assembly of a stem, and barrel with acme or square threads inside and out. The old replacement part tags that either my DAD, or old Bill left here read as follow: BLUE TAG
Group Z / Length 1, COLD Z1 -3C, Seat ---, Mfg. Am. Standard, Fixture #---, Old Bowers ---, GENUINE BOWERS STEMS,mfg by wrightway mfg co. The Hot tag has the same info on a red tag with these exceptions:Z1 - 3H, Old Bowers #R5300.
The barrels measure OD .870, ID .630, Length 1.630 inches. One is a rhand thrd. the other a lfthand thrd.. Not having the stems with me, my best recollection is that the length is about 3 inches with a spline at the front to accept the handle.

Any help with a source, or old drawings. Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Uldtimber

Mark had a good idea: go to your local plumbing store . They may have it or at least point you to the right direction.

My store that I use for the purpose of buying old replacement stems has a 300 page catalog of Stems of all imaginable sizes, types and manufacturers. Stems are there drawn in life-size. So you can actually place your stem over the drawing and compare it with your stem. No guessing here. Once you select your stem, you pay for it and they send it to Arizona where it is manufactured. Turn around time is about 2-3 weeks. It is not cheap but you will get exactly what you want. If you are in So.California, I can give you contact info on this store. Let me know...

At times nothing can beat my local plumbing store. I happen to live in Levittown, and if you don't know that town is thousands of homes all made in assembly line fashion with the same parts.

One local hardware store that's been around since the beginning (and is now an Ace store) goes the distance to stock replacement parts for these original fixtures!

Mind you, it was at least a decade ago I went there for replacement parts for the original tub faucets. Levittown is now 60 and I don't think I have any original fixtures left, with the possible exception of the outside hose and that's scheduled for refit this spring!

I always believed in asking that loud "...old fella in overalls..." that sits all day long by the check-out counter and endlessly chats with the store clerk. He probably never touched a tool in his life - but he certainly knows where you can get your hard-to-find faucet stem... :-D
