My wife and I just had our bathroom redone. That all went well and we had great hot water pressure. Well the hot water heater got a leak so we fixed that and now the hot water pressure is horrible. All of the other faucets in the house are functioning fine so some friends thought it might be a bubble in the line. I drained the heater a bit and filled it slowly with the faucets open and still have the same issue. I have already removed that temperature/safety device and that isn't helping. The hot water is weak whether it's on shower or tub spout. Also I have checked the shower head, to make sure, and it is clog free. The water will come out weak, stops for a second which is when I hear a gurgling sound, then picks back up weak again. I read on here to take the control knob off and check to see if it's clogged but I can't figure out how to get it apart. Any help or advice? Thanks in advance!

Please, tell us in detail about the "leak" at the water heater, what exactly was leaking and what you had to do to fix. Back to you. Milo

The drain valve on the bottom of the tank had a leak so I had to empty the heater in an attempt to flush it out in case debris was causing the leak. After doing that twice and still having the leak I decided to replace valve. I talked to the plumbing guy and Lowe's because I wanted to upgrade to a brass fitting and he gave me one that he said was a good replacement for that model of water heater. Ever since I switched them out I haven't had any leaks from the tank but now have the pressure issue. I don't think that's the issue since the water pressure (both hot and cold) are fine everywhere else in the house other than the bathroom. I've read a couple of posts on here that mentioned that debris can get in the tub valve and that's the only thing I can't figure out how to get it apart to check. I think I've checked just about everything else I can think of. Thanks again for any and all advice! If you need any further explanation to clarify just let me know.

It sounds like you have debris in your shower head or shower valve, first thing remove the shower head try the water flow now if it is good then you need to clean or replace the shower head, if not you need to remove the cartridge and flush the debris out of the valve, if you need help how to remove the cartridge please tell us the model number of your shower valve, Thanks.

Thanks a lot for all the help guys! It turned out it was debris in the valve. I got it all cleaned out and now the water flow is perfect and the wife is happy! That being said now I have a small drip issue, basically when I have the valve in the off position a little drip of water still comes out of the faucet/shower head. When I removed the valve one of the spring/gasket things on the back popped out. I think I probably didn't get it replaced correctly. Do you think this could be what is causing the small drip issue? Yes that can be the cause of the leak or there will still be some debris inside valve, Shut the water to the shower remove the cartridge turn on the water for a few seconds to flush out any debris left, install the cartridge and check if the problem is fixed if not you will need to replace the cartridge, also you can delta to explain your problem and they will send you a new cartridge in a few day for free no charge to you, see the image below is does yours looks like this, Good luck.

Go to the attached web site to get the manual for your device. Find the internal shut offs in the shower body. Make sure the water is off, hot and cold. Remove shut offs, turn your mains on just a touch and drain the system. Reassemble and see if your lucky... a lot of times with a renovation junk gets in your lines.

I also have a delta shower faucet which gets quite a bit of sediment build up from time to time. It slows down my hot water pressure. This last time I literally had to cut out the old delta cartridge to get to the sediment. Of course I had to buy a new cartridge for $40 ouch! Is there any special that makes removing the cartridge easy?

You can call Delta at 800-345-3358 and give the details to them they will send you a new cartridge for free no charge to you and return the one you have to the store for refund.

Nice info buddy. I didn't think to read the instructions so carefully, but now I see that the handle can be reattached to help leverage the cartridge out. I called Delta and after I submit proof of purchase one will be shipped out. I think that in my case, the mineral deposit build up actually bonded the cartridge to the insides of the shower valve! Next time I may spray some CLR and let it soak in.

Here is what you need to do once the cartridge is removed put some white vinegar inside the valve let it soak, then turn on the water for a few seconds to flush everything out then install the cartridge you will be done, Thanks.
