    Crane pre-war stem cartridge leakage
I recently purchased and installed a replacement Crane "Pre-War" bath faucet stem cartridge and valve seat. When closed, the faucet no longer leaks. But when I open the valve to release water, it spews water out horizontally through the stem handle as well as through the shower head.

Do you know what other adjustment I should make to fix this?

There were O Rings on the cartridge. Sounds like they got damaged putting it back together. Did you use plumbers grease on the O Rings to help it slide back in?

    Hey thanks.

There was a very thin gasket ring on the very outside of the unit, which is still intact. Are these O Rings you speak of on the interior of the cartridge? Are they kind of a thicker metal? If so, yes, they were there and there was some black grease on them. Does the grease help seal and prevent the water from spewing out?

NO, the grease lubricates the cartridge for easier assembly.
