Our Mains was shared between 3 houses. There's a main cut off tap in the street, which turns off water for all 3 houses. I think my neighbours have a main tap as well inside their houses, but we never found ours. Because these houses where built in 1800's and owners before us extended and added pipes and fitted heating.
So then we had our own mains water supply fitted which is done proplerly I hope. But the old mains pipes which still are in my new living room (old kitchen room) has been capped with push fits make this constant water running noise.
The noise reduces little but when neighbours turn there cold water on full.
It totally stopped when we turned the mains tap for all the houses. Which is 2doors down from my house.
Water board came out and wasted their time and our time and found nothing but noise and told us we need to get it fixed. ( I want to but don't know what the problem is)

As far I think (hope) there is no leak, never noticed damp or strange things.

We had our local plumber out and he was puzzled too and said theirs a huge leak some where but this constant water running has been coming over a year now.
Recently gone really load can hear in whole house at night time.

Did the plumber check the water meter for "meter creep"? Sounds like you have a hidden underground leak. There are compinies that specilize in locating and pin point hidden leaks. I would get one in to get the repair started. My question is who's paying for all this water? Has your water bill increased lately?

We get a yearly bill and don't have a meter. Our local plumber tried to see where the pipes come from and what the noise is, but he didn't get anywhere and gave up. Then we contacted the water board and they said that there is a huge leak somewhere but can't locate it.

I can only repete what I've already said. Get someone in that's equipped tom handle this problem.
Huge leakl= someone's got to pay for all that water and my guess is that it will be you and your neighbors. Good luck, Tom

Hey guys I dug my living room up today and followed when the old pipes went and found two pipes had tiny holes which sprayed waters onto the stone wall and made load noise.
I'VE DUG EVERYTHING UP AND GOT RID OF ALL THE OLD PIPES WHICH ARE NOT IN USE ANY MORE.
But there is a black rubber/plastic kind of pipe which is connected to the mains supply to the old connection.
What can I do with it?
Please tell me what to do with it.

Good job of finding the leak! What size is this black pipe? If you're dug up all the pipes from the old connection why not simply cap it off? Or have I missed something? Tom

The black pipe is same size as the new blue water pipes. 1inch.
It was connected to a copper pipe and I cut it from copper pipe and fitted a plastic push fit cap.
Im going to dig more and see where the black pipe leads.
Might as well do it proper.
What is the best and safest way to end a pipe.
