Close-coupled toilet flusher unit
Having recently changed the flusher unit in the toilet system the large donought shaped washer will not make a sufficient seal. I have removed and replaced the washer numerous times, every occasion resulting in a small seapage through the bolt hole. I know its not common practice but what would be the best sealant I could put around the washer.

If you're leaking past the tank bolts I'd be giving a hard look at the porcelain around the bolt holes. Especially if you cranked down hard on the bolts and failed to leave at least 1/4" of p-lay in the tank, You need that play to protect the tank. If there's no "give" to the tank the first time someone leans back it will put a strain on the tank bolt holes. Porcelain's brittle and cracks easy. Check the bolt holes for cracks. Good luck, Tom

If I understand you here, you replaced the entire FLUSH VALVE, right? If so, and it is leaking as you suggest then my first question would be to ask you if you installed the donut shaped flush valve washer on the INSIDE of the tank? Next question would be to ask you if you then installed the other donut shaped washer on the OUTSIDE of the tank? Here, a new flush valve requires two donuts... one on inside (usually black and smaller than the outside washer) and one on the outside (bigger, can be any color, black, red, orange, etc.). If you are missing either one that will explain the issue, for sure! A sealant is never required for this application, OK? Back to you... Mark |

OK guys, which do you think the poster is saying, the big donut washer in the center of the tank leaks or one of the two brass bolts holding the tank to the toilet. Looks like he said both.TOILET TANK TO BOWL BOLT & GASKET KIT FITS 2 & 3 BOLT on eBay! Here is a replacement kit. If it is the big washer on the left it has sides like a nut and must slip over the nylon nut holding the flush valve in place. If its one of the 4 black smaller washers you must have a brass washer right under the head of the bolt and another one just above the nut. Tighten until they are snug and the tank has a slight ability to rock back and forth about an inch.

Guys! The OP said it was leaking through the tank bolt holes. But then goes ion to complain about the flush valve leaking. This the donut shaped flush valve washer is called a "spud washer" So does he have two leaks? Guess we'll have to wait and find out, Regards. Tom
