    My Bathroom stinks
Good Morning, I have tried everything I know to detect and remove the smell in my Bathroom. It is only in the Master Bath. I have a septic tank which was cleaned just a year ago. I have plunged the drains in the two sinks, tub, shower and toilet. I have put baking soda down the toilet and drain and that helps for a few days. I poured bleach down the shower drain and everything is running through. I don't know how to check the vents.
    Can you help me please?

    Hi Jennie,

In order to help we must first locate the source of the smell. The drains? The tolilet? Where does it smell the worst? Let us know. Tom

Since you saw a bit of improvement when you worked on the toilet it is the likely source of your odor. You might consider replacing the wax ring. It is inexpensive and not too labor intensive. If you don't know how to do the replace we can help or you could call in a pro.

I can't tell and now I put a cup of baking soda down the toilet bowl and flushed and that takes care of it for a few days, then it returns. My husband thinks it is coming from the stool.

It is likely the wax ring between the toilet and the flange in the floor. Sewer gases can seep into the room over a period. $4 at most home centers for a new ring. You could also try adding about a quart of fresh bleach to you tank. Allow to sit for 15 minutes and then flush. This will remove bacteria from you tank and bowl. It will not have a lasting effect if the wax ring seal is broken.

Like I said, its between the toilet and the flange on the floor. Its under the mounting of the toilet. There are two brass bolts holding your toilet in position. If you shut off the water and disconnect the supply line you can remove those two bolts. The whole toilet will lift off and you will see a mashes yellow wax ring still clinging to either the floor flange or the toilet. This is not one of the pleassant jobs but you scoop out the old wax and buy a new ring. Install it on the toilet and carefully lower the toilet back into place. The ring will come with instructions. If you feel you don't have the strenth to lift the whole toilet you can remove the tank but its much more work and chance of breaking the China.
