This can only be a older house. If the floor drain is below the sewer main then it drains out to a dry well. Faced with this problem I would send a snake down the floor drain to clear the line. You will run into a spot the snake will go no farther. Mark the tape. That will be the distance to the dry well drom the floor drain. All you have to do is figure out which direction. We use a probe/sounding rod to probe down to locate the dry well. Once located you may wish to move it or redo the dry well. Good luck, Tom

The house was built in 1993. It is under the main in the basement. I guess it goes to a dry well unless it was some how connected to the septic some how. What exactly is a dry well.

Slow basement drain [ 3 Answers ]

It started when I went camping over the weekend and left the a/c on, only to come home to a wet basement. Just in the laundry room where the drain is. I realized it was the tube from the a/c blower/furnace. I mopped it up and poured hot water into the drain. That didn't seem to work. The drain...

Slow basement floor drain [ 1 Answers ]

It all started with an unplugged sump pump. As far as I can tell there has been about 4 inches of water in this basement for a really long time. The sump wouldn't start when plugged in, so I rented a pump and drained from the sump well. What remained was a dark greyish sludge that smelled...

Slow drain [ 1 Answers ]

:( New sink just installed in the bathroom but it drains very very sluggishly. The installer snaked out the elbow once, and he advised using liquid plumber. (Another plumber once told me never to use Draino anywhere.) Any ideas? I suspect that the clog is from powdery tile grout that somehow...

Please help. My toilet in the basement will not flush if a moderate amount of water has been used. Example is if me and my significant both take a shower and I do a load of laundry the toilet will not flush. It fills to the rim and then slowly drains. I have had the sewer line cleaned out to...
