    Adding drain lines
    Hello all,

This is my first post here so let me say thanks for the help first.

I'm adding a new shower and tub to the master bath and getting rid of the old shower. The drawing I've attached shows the new shower and tub. I'm going to cut the concrete and break it up to lay the lines (its a single story house on a slab) I'll follow the slope codes and all of the drain and vent lines will be 2 in. I want to tie the shower drain into the tub drain about 3 feet after the tub s trap with a wsy fitting. Then about 3 feet further vent the line with a sanitary tee. Continuing I'll tie the line into the existing drain line with a 45 degree and Wsy fitting. Thoughts?

It looks good to me. I would probably install vent on shower line too, before it reaches tub. It makes for better draining. Tub vent would than be before they 2" Y. Join vents in ceiling in one...

    Hi Chris...

You may also be able to connect into that existing VANITY drain line underground... ;)

This would be shorter route... a good thing when dealing with concrete... and if WET-VENTING is allowed in your area you may be able to use the vanity vent for the tub.

You should definitely vent the shower drain individually as Milo suggested!

Let us know what you think...

Thanks for the great feedback. I was thnking about venting the shower seperatly. Now the question is how. Obviously the drain is under the pan several inches underground. Can I add a t-connector say 8-10 inches from the drain and angle it up so the waste water doesn't flow into it but rather down the drain? I added a drawing to make a bit more sense of this. If I add the T-fiting I can use a few other fittings (a 45 or two) to get the vent line above the same level of the drain line and then take it to the exterior wall and up to connect with the other vent lines. I'm thinking that with a 2inch waste line I should run a 1 1/2 inch vent. I can then tie all of the vent lines togeather in the attic and then go out the roof. Thoughts?

Will the shower drain go under wall before it reaches point of connection ?

No a straight shot will take it across the floor to the tub drain. I might be able to come up from the floor just before it connects to the tub line. That spot would be under a whirlpool tub that is against a wall. I might have the space to come up from the floor ata 45 degree angle from the drain line and got to the wall and then up.

How about another idea. I should have thought of this before. I can vent the shower line right after it starts by taking it in the other direction to the exterior wall (shown in red) and then up to tie into the other vent lines in the attic. Thoughts?

Yes, your latest drawing is fine - Except - move the tub vent before the Y , where shower connects to tub drain.
