    adding 2nd floor drain to existing vent pipe
    this question has been addressed before. But I would like to have more input on the subject for my own project.

    I am finishing my 2nd floor cape into a master suite.I want to put in a whirlpool bath, no toilette or sink will be installed.

    my question is can I just tie into the vent pipe with the drain. It is a 3 1/2 inch OD pvc pipe.
    as the joist are running front to back and the sub floor is in place I do not want to cut up the ply wood and drill holes through the joist to run the drain through
    I would like to run the drain above the floor. With maybe a cut out in the floor for the drain trap.I was thinking a 2x4 support structure with ply wood for supporting the bottom of the tub itself, rather than using morter. This will also 2nd for the drain to run through.

    No toilet or sink and creating a wet vent, best to ask your building inspector if he'd approve any of this.

    If any fixtures are below that 3" vent pipe you can't use it without venting the fixtures that are below. Check with your local Building Department for code requirements. Because you're new I'll let it slide but from now on lose the advertisement. Good luck, Tom

    Not sure where the advertisement came from. It obviously came from this site.
    Thanks for the response. The vent comes from the basement where all the fixtures tie into the one pipe. I think that, the first floor bathroom sink may run directly into the vent pipe in the wall.

    If so, should I run a 2 inch drain pipe all the way down to the basment through the wall and leave the vent pipe alone?

    He didn't have a problem with the no sink and toilet.

    Yes, run dedicated 2" pipe all the way to the basement and connect to the 3" drain. As far as the vent to your new jacuzzi tub goes - you can connect it to that existing vent pipe upstairs.

    Yes, As I've explained, backed up by Milo, you can not use the vent as your drain. However you may revent the tub back into it. Good luck, Tom

    With the new drain pipe tied into the master drain. And the vent pipe at the very end of the main drain pipe"see picture" is there a need to tie into the vent above the main drain

    Are you asking if it's necessary to vent the tub or where to connect the vent to? Let me know, Tom

    If there are fixtures draining into the drain line that you're connecting the sink to you will either have to install a AAV,(see image) just downstream from the trap or run a vent up 6" over the flood rm of the uppermost fixture on that vent. Good luck, Tom
