1950s American Standard single shower handle
    Hi all,

I need to replace the rubber washer on my 1950s single shower handle for a standup shower stall. I have watched several Youtube videos to no avail, I can not for the life of me figure out how I am supposed to remove the handle. I have attached a picture for you to show you what I am talking about. Any suggestions are appreciated, many thanks!

There's no set screw under the center hole in the handle? Will the faceplate and handle remove as a single unit? Back to you. Tom

There isn't a screw under the center hole in the handle, just the two screws you see in the picture. The faceplate can loosen by the larger screw feature (the one that looks like you need a wrench to loosen it-between the handle and the faceplate), but will not come off as a single unit, the handle remains attached.

So, you removed a screw from the handle and the handle still will not come off, right? If that is the case, and there is no other screw inside the handle then you need to aggressively WIGGLE the handle back and forth (without breaking stem) and see if that helps....should loosen eventually as that is brass on brass and is probably just seized up a bit...;)

Home Depot or Loews or any plumbing supply store will have what you need. Better take the old one with you.
