Calculate distance travelled by object when a impulse force is given
    Hi,
I would like to know what is the formulae to find the distance traveled by an object of mass M when an impulse force is given to an object when friction is constant as Fr.

I have an object M when I hit the object with force F(like hammer hitting the object), how much distance will the object travel and come to a halt.

e.g.. Say object MASS is 10KG and Friction Force is 10N. When hammer hits the object with force of 100N how much distance will it travel ? Is thare any formulae to find it.

    Thanks in Advance,

Hello mnathan. There is a theory in physics regarding the equivalence of impulse and momentum. The theory is this:

You have provided values for F and m, but to calculate the change in velocity you will need to know the length of time that the force is acting on the object. Then you can use the above formula to calculate the object's initial velocity after being struck, and its initial kinetic energy. After that it's a matter of equating the work done by friction () to the loss in KE as the object's velocity slows to zero.

    Hope this helps.
