Why is the speed a photogate measures the same speed of ascending mass?
This is for an Atwood machine. The photogate will measure the tangential speed of the pulley, of the atwood machine. Why is this speed the same as the speed of the ascending and descending masses?

The answer should be obvious. Under what conditions could the speeds be different? Remember that an Atwood machins is idealized as having an inextensible massless string.
