A person takes a trip, driving with a constant speed of 89.5 km/h, except for a 22.0-min rest stop. If the person's average speed is 77.8 km/h, how much time is spent on the trip and how far does the person travel? Need explanation, Thanks

Distance = rate times time. The rate is 89.5 km/h

If the total time is T (in hours), then T-(22/60) is the time traveled at 89.4 km/h. Use this information to generate one expression for distance traveled (rate times time).

the average speed is 77.8 km/h. So that is the speed traveled in time T. Use this equation to generate another expression for distance traveled (rate times time).

The two equations are equal to each other, so create an equation from the two expressions. Solve for T (in hours). This is the total time traveled, including the 22 minute rest stop. You can now use either the first expression or the second expression to calculate the distance traveled.
