    How to calculate density of sludge having 10% iron scales in water
    I face problem to calculate density of sludge in the underflow of any sludge thickener. Can you help me?

    Record the volume of the sludge in a measuring vessel (measuring cylinder for example) and have the mass of the sludge ( [mass of sludge + vessel] - [mass of empty vessel] )

    Then, the density is the mass divided by the volume.

My many years old water heater had a lot of a milky white sludge with some chunks in it when I drained it. Is this the sludge build up I have heard about. I live in San Diego, CA and the water really messes up galvanized plumbing with a dark scale build up. Is this the same stuff?
