    Hair extension
To do my hair in beautiful model for me, I have decided to use hair extension and color for it. Based on my picture, is it possible for me and if so, what model of hair extension and color?

Yes, it is possible for anyone with hair to use extensions. And, you don't have to dye your own hair!

There are several methods you and your stylist can choose from: Thermal Bonding, Sew-In, Glue-In Bonding, and Hairclip extensions.

I prefer Sew-In extensions because they don't damage the hair as much as some of the other techniques. With the sew-in technique, your natural hair is cornrowed (braided closely to the scalp) and the tracks (wefts) of hair are sewn on to the braids.

The Thermal Bonding technique involves taking small strands of extension hair and bonding them with hot glue on to your own hair (no braiding).

With the Glue-In extension method, your hair is not braided. Your hair is parted from back to front, and the tracks of hair are glued on to each row.
This method typically doesn't last very long.

Hairclip extensions tend to add bulk to the hair. They are tracks of hair with a small comb-clips attached. Again, your hair is parted from back to front and you clip in the tracks. The clips can sometimes unclasp though, so I don't really prefer them.

With all of these methods, you can leave the very front of your own hair out, and blend it with the other hair. You can part your hair this way, and it tends to look more natural. You can also use gel to smooth your own hair in the front with the extension hair (but I would not recommend using gel on a lot of the extension hair because it can get tangled).

I think your hair would look great if you got extensions that are somewhat close to your natural color - maybe a #6, with blond and/or brown highlights that are in warm shades.

I've done hair extensions on my friends and myself quite a few times. I typically like to use wavy hair on myself with dark blonde/light brown highlights #30).

Also feel free to use different shades of highlights- browns with a few touches of blond is a really fresh, nice look.

I would also buy hair from your local beauty supply store, instead of online (a lot more expensive).

Here's a website that has more info: http://www.hairparlor.com/haircare-a...extensions.htm

And a basic color chart: http://www.lfhair.com/html/hair_color_chart.php

    Good Luck!

    Dear Nadia,
Thank you so much for your very good comments.
There is only one part of your comments that I haven't understood it completely.
You have said " you can leave the very front of your own hair out, and blend it with the other hair". This means I should extension only to front of my hair?
If so, what about the back of it?
    Thanks again

    Your Welcome :)

You would have to put the extensions in, by making parts in horizontal rows, then attaching the hair to each row, from back to front: http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/uplo...Picture_87.jpg http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/uplo...Picture_85.jpg
You then would stop at the "bangs" and blend your "bangs" into the rest of the top of the extension hair so you can't see the tracks. You can finger comb your hair to do this, or use a brush. You also might decide that you want to put gel on the bangs... here's an example of what it might resemble: http://www.hairconspiracy.com/generic78.html

Hair extensions, as their name suggests, are sections of hair added to your own natural hair, giving it added volume and length, even changing its style. Extensions can be real or synthetic. The most expensive and most natural looking extensions are made from human hair. Other alternatives are animal hair, treated human hair, and synthetic fibers.

Hair extensions are available in many different colors, textures, styles, and lengths. "A skilled stylist can choose hair extensions that are virtually indistinguishable from your own hair."

There are a variety of methods to attach hair extensions. The type and style of hair selected can be a determining factor in how they are attached. Human and synthetic hair can be attached strand by strand or in wefts. A strand of hair would be considered to be 30 or so pieces of hair. A weft is a section of hair that is attached together at the top. The weft is typical sewn or bonded in to the natural hair. Other innovative methods include fusion, bonding, locs, clamps, using string and more.

If you decide to get hair extensions, you should schedule a hair extension consulation with a hair stylist for more information. Many hairstylists will offer a consultation for free, while others may charge a nominal fee that can be applied to the cost of getting the hair extensions.

There are 5 basic things that the hairstylist should do during the hair extension consultation:

    1. The hairstylist should analyse the overall condition of your natural hair and scalp. Hair must be strong and healthy to hold the attachment of extension hair in place for up to 3-month period. If you can easily pull out one strand of your hair, your hair may not be strong enough to hold extensions. The stylist may put in a test extension so that you can get an ideal of what they will be like.

    2. The stylist should look closely at the first 2-4 inches of your natural hair since this is where the extensions will be secured. If your hair is damaged or brittle hair in this area, the extensions may not turn out very well and even may cause permanent damage to your natural hair.

    3. The stylist will determine if your hair is normal, fine, coarse, dry or greasy. If a client has excessively greasy hair that necessitates shampooing daily, there are certain hair extension methods that will not work. The oil in the natural hair can break down some bonds in the extensions and cause them to slip out. There have been a few hair extension methods developed recently that will accommodate excessively oily hair.

    4. The stylist will determine the length, color and style that you desire and whether you are interested in human or synthetic hair.

    5. The stylist should discuss all factors of hair extension services. Total costs. Including maintenance costs, should be discussed and written down. Details of how the extensions are attached, how to take care of them on a day to day basis, how long they take to attach and more should all be discussed.

You can wash the extensions just like your own hair.
I would definitely suggest buying human hair because it's much better quality than synthetic. When you wash your hair (with the extensions in), wet it (in the shower is best, esp. a shower hose)... and pour a small amount of shampoo in the palm of your hand ( a little more than the size of a quarter), and evenly distribute the shampoo to your hair, and rinse. If you choose to use a conditioner, you can do the same after shampooing. DON'T USE CONDITIONERS WITH MENTHOL - they tend to dry out the hair and make it frizzy. I would use a Pantene Conditioner. However, conditioners can make the tracks a little loose.

DON'T USE HOT WATER, just lukewarm. Run your fingers through the hair, being careful not to pull the tracks (be very gentle), and rinse out. Blot the ends with a towel. Then you can let it air-dry. (I WOULD NOT BLOW DRY IT! It might become frizzy.) I would also recommend using a hair "glosser" when you air-dry it. That way it won't get frizzy. You can use a product like John Frieda's 'Frizz-Ease' or 'Shine', both available at the drugstore.

If you wash it too often, the tracks will start to become loose, so wash it maybe once every 1-2 weeks or so.

    Hope that helped!

Sure, Sfem :) I love to do hair and plan for my own hairstyles :p

Good luck! Again, I recommend that you go for warm colors in the blondes and browns. Just out of curiosity, are you going to buy straight, wavy or curly highlights? How long do you want them? Personally, I like wavy on myself because it's flattering for my face shape. And for the length, sometimes I like shoulder length, and sometimes a little longer (18 in. at the longest)

I think everybody knows to go to a hairstylist to get extensions done. Even if it's someone who does hair out of their home (where other people you've seen with nice hair have gotten it done).

I want to see pics when it's finished!

    Good Luck,
    Nadia

    Thank you Nadia
    What is your opinion?
Wavy or straight? Which is better for me? And also I like shoulder length.
However, May you guide me about the suitable model of face and eyebrow make up for me?

Well it's really up to you, but if I were you I'd get a soft wave (often called a Spanish Wave), I'm trying to find a pic of it, I will post it when I do.

As for makeup, I can't really tell, because the pic of you is so small. I'm guessing you have a light olive complexion? Do you have a bigger pic?

    Nadia

Here are some examples of the kind of wave I mean

Sfem, I remember giving you beauty and hair advice 10 months ago. I've answered your post to the best of my ability, but you kept asking more questions on how to look like a woman and everyone got tired of telling you what to do. A couple of the members have also answered your other posts. If you want to become a woman, I advise you to do some research and visit a hairstylist to have them do your hair and make up. Nadia876, stop posting every website you come across, it's considered advertising and I could have you ban from here. This is my final warning. I'm closing this thread now.

I'm using the glue on extensions, and wanted to know if I dye the extensions first, or can I dye them with my natural hair when they are glue on
