    Nikon D40 Settings
I have a Nikon D40 that has blurry images and actually loses some pictures. What should I set it to thoroughly ?

There is no magic single setting that works perfectly in all cases - that's why cameras have so many setting options.

Can you give more details about the blurry pictures? What were you taking photos of? How much light did you have? What is the f-stop and shutter speed of the blurry photo?

I don't understand what you mean by "actually loses some pictures". Please explain in more detail.

Loses photograps means that I hear the shutter click, but in xfering to PC the picture is not there.

Taking pictures of anything with A(perature priority) setting. Setting to complete auto helps

What Aperture Priority setting are you using, and what shutter speed is the camera selecting. Give me details about a single specific photo. I need to know:

    1) What are you shooting (person, landscape, etc.)?
    2) Where are you shooting (indoors, outdoors in full sun, etc.)?
    3) What was you're a setting (aperture)?
    4) What was the ISO?
    5) What was the resulting shutter setting?

About the missing pictures. You say they don't transfer to the PC - can you see them on the review screen on the camera? Have you tried transferring the files manually using Windows Explorer or Finder rather than the software that came with the camera?

How do I find these settings Jill ? I'm an old manual SLR user and am confused by all the new gadgets. I'm shooting various still settings.

The settings are in the image file, in a section called exif (extended information). Open an image using the camera's software. The software should have an option to "view info" or "view exif" and then show you the exif data. If you can't find it, try clicking on the help link and search for exif and see if there's a help file on how to view the exif info.

You said "I'm shooting various still settings." Are you using a tripod? Are you shooting in full-sun, or indoors? If indoors, what is your light source?

What software do you use on your computer to view the files after you transfer them?
