Minolta Dimage Z1 digital camera problem
Camera has worked fine for 6 years. Now I had dead battery, so I replaced 4 AA batteries and the camera now when I push the button to turn it on, it makes only half the little chime sound it makes to turn on. If I set the camera into 'view photos' mode and turn it on, the camera turns on just fine and I can view the stored photos on the back screen. But as soon as I switch to take a picture mode, the camera shuts itself off. I do know that when the 'take a picture mode' comes on, the front lens of the camera moves out. It is moving out OK (in other words it's not stuck or jammed in anyway) but as soon as it does that the camera goes dead.

Other thing I notice is the batteries that show dead when I test them they appear to still test at usable batteries. Am I just not getting batteries strong enough capable of powering the photo mode? I know my daughter's camera (a cheap one) won't take video if battery is low but is fine to still take still pics.

So I'm about to go shop for a new camera but wonder if all I need is new batteries?
    Anybody?

I would try new batteries first. Get the best you can afford. Also make sure your installing them in the correct order. While the batteries are out check for corrosion on the battery connections inside the camera.
