    What kind of spider is this?
    This spider is living right outside our front door and it creates it's beautiful web each night and disapears each day. It look very dangerous to me but I don't want to hurt it if it's just a bug eater and not a people eater.

    I believe that spider is a common garden spider. The only spiders that I know of with spines on their legs are garden spiders and lynx spiders (lynx spiders are very thin) there are many varieties of garden spiders however

    I live in the southern California area of Orange County. I'm so glad to hear you think it might only be a garden spider. He seems to be growing but perhaps it's because he eats all night long.

    Oh, also I cannot see the eyes... I would not know what I was looking for. However I did see a wicked clamp like mouth... or short legs by his mouth. Couldn't really get any closer. Can you see the web, it's perfectly funnel shaped isn't it? I thought those were primarily dangerous to humans?

    I get those at my house in northern California. Is it really big? Mine are huge.

    I don't know spiders, so not an expert here.

    But I think there are only two spiders that are dangerous at all--black widows and brown recluses. Right spyderglass? This one isn't either of those, so be kind to it. :)

    Even black widows and brown recluses don't go looking for people; they just bite in self defense.

    Ok, if you're all right, I will definitely leave it alone because it's facinating to watch each night he weaves this beautiful web and each day it disappears. It's just really CREEPY! Thanks!
