Flies show up when I cook
I have been having this problem for the last two years. Whenever I cook food, regardless of how long it takes to cook, flies show up in the house particularly in the kitchen area. The flies are of varying sizes but seem to be black. I have moved every piece of furniture, cleaned everything, all the windows, sills, between the storm windows, in back of the fridge, washer and dryer etc. House has never been so clean. I also went to a local insecticide store and they recommended this potent spray and I sprayed everything, indoor and outside, all around the windows and the ground immediately around the house and still flies show up. I really feel like I am going nuts! I have also looked for dead animals of any type and find nothing. Any advice will be helpful as nothing I have done has fixed this awful problem. BTW, if I kill all the active flies and don't cook for a few days I see no flies at all. But the minute I even put a frozen lean cuisine dinner in the micorwave, bam, the flies show up within a few mintues from the oder of the cooking food. PLEASE HELP!

    Hello Breezie

Just some questions to get an idea of your house :

Is it an open or closed kitchen area ?
If closed and you close all doors and windows in the kitchen area, and than start preparing food, you should be able to estabish where the flies are coming from : you are not "creating" them.
Are your windows in the kitchen area screened? Do you have a screened kitchen exit door?
    Do you use a cookerhood?
From your experience : are these flies coming from outside or inside?
About the flies : you say black various sizes... Type fruit flies or these big horsefarm types?

    :)

Thanks for trying to help. These are not fruit flies. I looked up pictures of flies and they look like they are possible cluster flies. As I said I sprayed everything I could spray, including the ground around the house. My house is rather small, cottage like if you will. The windows are typically closed and are screened. Windows are the newer "tilt in" type. The kitchen has a small door way that is without a door that opens into the living room. There is also a small room on the other side of the kitchen, a utility room, where the heater, hot water tank, washer, drier and refrigerator are housed. I had new cabinets, ceramic tile floor and granite top installed just about a two years ago and nothing unusual was found during the demo but these flies showed up about 3months or so after the install. If I was seeing flies all the time I would understand that there was an infestation but since they only show up after I start cooking I would guess they are finding a route into the house that I just have not found yet. Oh, we also plugged all tiny openinings around pipes and such and still they show up. The only other outside source I can think of it the condensation hose for the central air but from what I have read flies do not have the ability to travel through the hose and then the air vents. Again, thanks for trying to help, I feel like I am ready for a breakdown over this!
