    Pepper Mites
I have been renting a home for 4 months and most of this time have been bitten by the "invisible" bug... I thought they were fleas but I don't have pets and was told about these biting mites.. It happens mostly in bed at night and also near my computer in the living room.. Only these two rooms are infected and both have deep pile rugs.. Also was told during many months of renovation before I moved in the house was over-run by rats... Great.. Have not seen any of those luckily, but have decided they left something behind to remind me they were here... I stripped my bed and under my foam mattress topper were many black "bugs" that looked like ground pepper. So I fogged my bedroom twice, with no results.. Then looked at the box and mites were not on their list. Vacuem every day, rugs, bed everywhere I can think of wash sheets daily now in hot water a little better but I want these gone.. Any suggestions, a bomb that's not going to kill me and everything around me? These bites are annoying.

Make sure you aren't allowing them to get back out of the vacuum cleaner. Freezing the bag or disinfecting the canister with bleach solution after each use is the recommended way to prevent re-infestation.

You might also consider using a hose extension on cracks higher up. Rodent and Bird mites (which are often termed 'pepper mites') are not confined to floors.

As far as bombs and foggers, none are very effective on mites, unless you want to try to convince the landlord to spend big bucks on fumigation of the entire building.

I used sulfur powder bought at the pharmacy store - over the counter- for biting bird mites... also found the source, a nest in the attic eaves of the house. I put the powder on my body and dusted the floor and areas around my bed. It worked. Hope this helps you.
