    Insect's waste?
I'm in Florida. There appears to be some insect or 'thing', that leaves a kind of sand looking piles of stuff. It's not sand. It comes in two different shades; sand colored and darker.

There is no indication on the surrounding wood furniture of any knawing or eating. It's a mystery to us. We've turned them over and looked. Plus, we've seen no wildlife in the house.

In one part of the room its in an actual pile about three inchs around; in other spots it's a 'dust' with the texture of fine sand.

Would appreciate any info that would answer this query.

Thanks in advance for your time.

It sounds like what is called "frass," a mixture of fecal pellets, shavings and other debris. From your descriptions of the piles and dusting, I would guess that it's from a powderpost beetle infestation.

Here's a link with lots of images, please note the photos of damaged wood. The holes on the outside can be almost unnoticeable.
