How do you deal with multiple garnishments
An employee has an Student Loan garnishment to withhold 15% of disposable income on bi-weekly basis. This order has been in place for years due to a huge unpaid balance.

We just received a 13 week order, but not so sure if I can legally take anything towards the new order. On the back of the form, there is a clause for MULTIPLE EARNINGS GARNISHMENTS: "... if debtor's earnings are already being garnished when you receive this garnishment, place this garnishment into effect the pay period after the last of any prior earnings garnishments terminates.

So do I have to wait until this huge Student Loan garnishment terminates? The reason why I'm confused is that the student Loan garnishment asks only to withhold 15% of disposable income, and the 13 week order asks for 20%. According to the CCPA, you can withhold up to 25% of disposable income for multiple orders, but since the 13 week order stated there could be one order taken at the time, I'm not so sure how to deal with that.

The company and the employee reside in the state of Wisconsin.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would withhold the 15% for the student loan which is a debt to the government and then I would withhold 10% for the other garnishment.
It is okay to have more than one garnishment at a time.

Any child support garnishment would take precedence over all garnishments.

    Then federal garnishments or levies

    Then creditor garnishments
