How long has this been going on? Have you sought a mental health evaluation? Do you permit him to live free with you and contribute nothing?

What does he do/ work ? Go to school? I hope you are not saying he is 23 and does nothing but sit at home. He may well need mental health counseling

I agree that this sounds like a mental health issue, even schizophrenia. He may refuse to go see someone, and you may have to either try to get someone to the house, or kick your son out in order to prompt him to realize that he can't just be supported and fed by you for the rest of his life.
I would first talk to someone in mental health. Then I would sit down and quietly tell your son that he has a week to go see that person, and if he doesn't, you will be evicting him from your home for his own good.

Clearly your son has dialed out of life. This is not normal, or productive, or a sign of a stable person, living some sort of life.

I don't believe that it is ever a good idea to toss any family member to the curb, when there are some serious issues going on with him, that demand some action on your part, to address.

You don't say how long this has been going on, or whether there is a history of him that involves, drugs/alcohol, trouble with the law, learning difficulties, depression, anxiety, etc. There has to be some sort of history. Behaviour like this doesn't just happen overnight.

You make him sound almost comatose.

Speak to your family doctor for advice. Go in person, and describle what is going on with your son, and that you are unable to get him out of the house for some sort of evaluation. Maybe arrangements can be made for a counselor to come to your home. Maybe you can make arrangements to have him involuntarily taken to a psychiatric hospital for a 24 hour observation- which is better than nothing.

Please don't give up on him, without first trying everything you can to figure out what is going on.

Get him the help he needs.

Hard to believe this is something that has just happened, so is there more background to this situation?
