My 3 year old's father is an alcoholic and a drug addict. He currently has charges pending for a drug felony. He curses badly at our 3 year old, tells him that his mother is a b**ch while I'm standing there. He has hit me, pushed me, and threatened me in frount of our son. I have 3 other children that have heard all of this in person. I have kicked him out of my house, and now he is threatening to take him from me. How much do I have to have against him before I can prove that he isn't fit to be around our son alone?

Have you gone to get a protection from abuse order?
What country/state do you live in?

A protection order is a good start, but you need to do more.

Change the locks on the doors, and if you can, have a friend or relative stay with you until you can be sure that he won't come around. Drug users and abusers are highly unpredictable people.

Go and see a lawyer to help you establish sole custody. You need to know your rights and responsibilities legally to set your mind at ease.

Don't answer his phone calls, or texts, or let him in the house 'to talk'.

When you have established your security and know where you stand legally, maybe consider counselling for the older children so they are not left with feeling the sadness and responsibility for the violence and abuse they have witnessed in their home.

Document everything. Child pertective services are most likely available to you. Call them. You can apply to get aid for legal assistance, and or for mental health clinics for support for you and your children. ( If this is a need) Women shelters have saved lives. What ever you do be strong and act now. I wish you the best.
