Story time is always a great start... children love familiar books where they know what's going to happen, esp if they can make the noises to go with the story...

Colouring time... getting him to colour or draw, you'll need to sit with him and talk about the picture.

For example colouring a rainbow, point to the colours and say the names asking him to repeat or to use the green/red colours.

Baking... kids love making stuff, and helping you.

Having two small children takes up all your day and having a routine where you and they know what's happening next will settle and keep them from getting bored.

Dr. Kevin Leman has a series of books on parenting. I was not really a "books on being a good Daddy" kind of guy. Until I read "Have a new kid by Friday".

Him, and Dr. James Dobson are the best in my opinion.

    Good luck.

Are your kids home all day with you? Has your two year old seen a doctor about him not talking?

You could start with a schedule, like 8 am wake up time, while you prepare breakfast, maybe they could watch cartoons, or color, or kind of have free time.
9am, maybe short walk, talk to him, point out birds, tell him what noises they make, look for rocks, pick flowers, tell him about the colors.

10am maybe you could have story time, or have a play date with another child his age. 12 lunch time, from 12:30-1:30 could be quiet time or nap time. Depending on what time of day you want them to sleep.

2pm could be activity time, buy some children c.d's and sing along, encourage him to sing with you, dance, make crafts while you are listening to the music.

3pm could be free play again.

Is that what you mean by routine?

Also do you have places where you can take your kids to play and interact with other children his age. What about swimming, or toddler gymnastics?

I think if your boys are home with you all day it would be great to get into some sort of playgroup. That will probably get your 2yr old to start talking a bit more and he would really enjoy interacting with kids his age. Usually most play groups have a variety of ages because siblings often come so it would be good for your 6 month old as well. Your pediatrician, local daycares or schools should help point you in the right direction to finding a playgroup.

Setting up a routine is also a great idea. The ones that other people have posted are great, just be sure you stick to it. Bedtime is also another important routine that you want to have. Start having the boys relax an hour or so before bed with a routine. Usually a bath, reading books or something similar work best so they know that bedtime is coming.

    Good luck!
