Best Way to Take My Son's Temperature
My son feels very warm to me and I want to take his temperature. I would like to know the best way to do it : orally, rectally or under the armpit?

I know for smaller babies it is usually done rectally, but he is 2 now. Is it still OK to use this method? Or should he be able to sit still enough to do it orally now?

Axillary is fine if he can't hold the thermometer in his mouth. Just remember to add a degree.

May I suggest investing in an ear thermometer. Relatively inexpensive, very easy to use, quick and effective.

    Thank you very much J!

I'll look into the ear thermometer. I was also looking at one that you roll across their forehead, but the ear one sounds better to me.

We use the ear in the hospitals I have worked in, they are very accurate as they take the internal temp. When using the one that you roll over the forehead you have external issues, such as room temp that may make the temp inaccurate.
