    Do I need a passport?
We are planning a trip to Memphis, from Canada. Is there a law yet, to have to have a passport. We are going in March. Do I need to do this?

Have you tried asking either consulate? If I were you that's the first place I'd ask, as they are usually up on the latest laws. I would also assume, you'd need something to identify yourself with. Good Luck.

To travel from the united states to Canada, or canada to the united states there is no need for passport as of yet. They were talking about needing a passport to get into the united states from Canada in the year 2006 but I think they are going to scrap that idea. All you need is Birth certificate and drivers liceance.

As of Dec 31, 2006... you WILL need a passport to enter or leave Canada-US border via AIR TRAVEL

As of Dec 31, 2007... you WILL need a passport to enter or leave Canada-US border via GROUND TRAVEL (that is, crossing by car)

    WEB LINK REFERENCE: http://www.pptc.gc.ca/travel_tips/trip_planning_e.asp

In the mean time, you need your birth certificate or something to prove you have Canadian citizenship and a govt issued picture Id (drivers license or your health card).

So, birth certiciate + (drivers license or health card)... drivers license is better as most Americans look at the Health Card with a very confused look and some even doubt its authenticity because they have never seen it nor have anything like it.

I would recommande a drivers license and birth certificate.

    Enjoy your trip!
