Hi there. How do you people deal with huge amounts of documents? We have a few computers in the local network and finding a particular document sometimes becomes a nightmare... windows standard search definitely doesn't help...

For a start, think of the computers as a large filing cabinet.

Purchases in the Purchasing Folder which is subdivided by product/supplier

Sales in the Sales folder which is subdivided by location/customer

Administration in the admin folder which is subdivided into employee records/social insurance/income tax, etc

QUite simple when you think of how would it have been done 50 years ago

well, I was actually am looking for some professional data management / search software... thanks though =) besides, it's kind of hard to think be organized when there are over 20 computers in the local network and you can't monitor where your co-workers are storing their data...

A server should hold all company documents/spreadsheets. Makes sense as well, for backup purposes.

I can see the logistical problem if users are storing everything on the local PC.

Well see, the documents are both on the server and on the local PC. SO, we need a software that would be able to search in the whole of our database (server and other comps in the local network)... and that would be able to deal with the data volumes... as well as be efficient

Had the sam problem a while ago. There's plenty of document management programs... Or well, if you are particularly looking for a search engine you might find "SearhcInform" useful. We've been using it for a while and do far it's been dealing with our databases just well. It also helps that it supports a ton of different file formats, has a similar text search function and is rather quick.

Thanks, but that's the desktop version for home users... what I need is a professional corporate tool

No it's not new. I had a similar problem over a year ago and this program helped me create an efficient document management system at the time. The program is easily integrated into already existing document management systems, indexes databases, works with the whole of LAN and is corporate-user oriented.
