    1. Make sure Acrobat reader is not running and terminate its quick starter from TaskManager (<ctrl><alt><del> or [Start | Run | Taskmgr] ok).

    2. "Delete C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader #". Usually # refers to the version number of Acrobat Reader.

    3. Download a copy of CCleaner.exe

    CCleaner - Home

    4. Install CCleaner and launch it. Click on the "Registry" icon (left side) and click on "scan for issues" (bottom). Click "fix selected issues" and fix all issues that CCleaner found. You can create a "backup" if you're timid. Repeat until no more issues are found (at least twice total -- possibly 3 times) or you get to a state where the same issue is found repeatedly and won't go away when you try to fix it.

    6. Launch RegEdit (Start | Run | RegEdit)

    7. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe and delete the "Acrobat Reader" key and everything underneath it.

    8. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adobe and delete the "Acrobat Reader" key and everythign underneath it.

    8. Download a new version of Acrobat Reader and install it.
