I can't offer anything in the way of help, but just wanted to offer my condolences on the loss of your husband. Cancer is hard to deal with, and then having to deal with medical bills on top of that. More than a person should have to bear.
You could check with the hospitals and doctors involved. If you have no insurance, you may get self-pay deductions, and also if you don't have the income to cover it all, you may be able to work something out. You basically get charged the highest rate possible - rates that an insurance company or government agency would never pay. So they're trying to charge you to make up for what they don't get from these agencies - they essentially dump it on the self-payers. So there's no fair reason on earth for you to have to pay those full amounts when they would never normally get it. So give them all a call, discuss income levels, etc. and see what you can work out directly with them in terms of reducing your bills.
