    Phone plan
    Hi my name is Alex.

On 2008 I signed a phone contract at Rogers at pacific mall in Toronto for a Rogers plan. I was entitled to a phone and a plan but because I did not need a phone at that time so I asked the sales representative if it was possible to get my phone later and he said Yes. A year later my dads phone died and I went back to Pacific mall for my phone.

They said I have to call rogers and after a long talk with one of rogers representative they agreed to give me a phone for $50 and a $50 rebate.

Recently because I want to change my carrier so I checked up when my phone contract was due. They told me it was due late 2012 which didn't make sense to me because it was a lot longer then expected. What I found out was that when I got the rebate for the $50 phone they have renewed my contract.

They told me they had my consent in which I have no idea of. They have no recording of what I said that day and I didn't sign and written consent or anything.

I might have missed it but without proof or anything it seems like a forgery to me because I would never accept a renewal as I never like my phone plan.

Is there anyway I can fight this and get my original contract time?

    Thanks

I worked for a large cell phone company and dealt with issues like this one all the time.

You need to call the call center, don't bother going into the store. You will need to explain this story a few times, and be persistent. If the rep will not cancel the contract, than you need to speak to the supervisor and keep going up until it gets resolved. See the thing is with the contracts, is if you have your own phone, there is no need to sign a contract, the contract technically shouldn't have been placed on the account in the first place as you had your own phone. But now you have a phone. Which is the phone you should have gotten in the first place, and this is where the finagling comes in.

How long have you had the new phone for now? If it is with in 30 days you can return the phone and go back to your original contract, with the original end date.

Its been about a year or so.
Its so frustrating because I don't want to wait another 2 years to change my phone plan.
The call center keep telling me that they told me they have a note saying that the previous sales rep had explained to me.
They are counting on that note to argue with me right now

Sadly yes that is how it normally works, you needed to take your phone when you could and keep it in a draw till needed.

Please not sure of what you have in your area, but look at the dozens of non contract plans. For example here in the US, you can buy a phone for a low as 30 bucks ( I paid 100 dollars for mine) and have unlimited text and unlimited talk for 45 dollars a month, with great coverage. *** NO CONTRACT.

Your phone is not and never has been free, you pay a higher monthly charge to cover cost of the phone.

We have horrible plans here in Canada. Nothing compared to the ones available in the States.

All I can suggest is to continue calling and speaking to a manager and explain the situation. Unfortunately, notes on the system are like God's word in call centers. You can always contact the BBB and see what they suggest.

You I was hoping to speak to their manager but at the same time I wanted a different guy to talk to at the call center.
He was so impatient and kept cutting me off when I was talking.

    Btw what's the BBB

FR_chunk: Thanks for the comment but like Aurora said the plans here in Canada are horrible and fiinding a phone plan in Canada without contract is next to impossible.

The BBB is the "Better Business Beuraux" (spelling? ).

I switched to Telus, which runs off the same towers as Bell, and am much happier with my service.

Have you thought about ZooDo or Virgin?

    Thanks you for your replies
I have filed a complaint to BBB and hopefully they would reply to me soon.

In the mean time I guess I'll call them once more tonight and see if a different representative can do anything.

    Thanks for the help everyone.
