Can I get in trouble for using a lost phone?

I found this phone and I used it a couple times without thinking. Then I heard that I could get in sum type of trouble if I ran up the bill. I've been searching and I can't really find any for sure answers... I need to know what type of trouble I could get in and what I should do next?

If you ran the bill up they can make you pay for them.
If you didn't run it up that high then maybe they will just be glad to get it back and not care.
Returning it asap is the best thing to do though.

The only person who will be charged for your calls is the person who owns the cell phone. However, the numbers called will be on the invoice received by the subscriber, that is if they were long distance numbers. I don't know about local numbers.

Hi Nohelp, if the OP found the phone, how is she going to be charged for using the phone if they don't know who has it.

The subscriber can call the cell phone number from an other phone, but unless the person is completely honest and answers, returns it, I don't see what can be done otherwise.

Yeah if they return the phone un-anonymously and they ran the bill up they can be held responsible for the over charges. But off course they can return it without the person ever knowing.
I took it they wanted to know what kind of trouble a person can get in in the worst case scenario.

When I find a phone if it doesn't have the owners info in it I call the most likely number that will be closest to the person like if it has a number listed mom or sister and then I tell them I have the phone and how do they want me to return it.
