    Unruly neighbor
We have lived in our house for 11 years, and have always gotten along with our neighbor. I have also done many things to help my neighbor. I have given her baby formula when her son was born. Helped her move soil. I found her someone to put in a new driveway to mention a few. One day my neighbor turned on me and my family. It was during a snowstorm and they were shoveling snow from their driveway into my yard on top of my expensive trees. I asked her nicely not to do that and she said "If I did not like it I should move". Now there is a fifteen foot buffer between their house and mine. This only means I must keep that fifteen feet natural and undisturbed (which I do). I have arborvite trees planted down the side. She says the trees are hers. She does not want my children or anyone to be on that side of the house. She even went so far as to call the police because my son was having a catch with his friend in my yard. The police said we can do anything we want in our yard. She has yelled at workers who do work in my yard. She has called my family members names. She yells at anyone who parks in front of my house. They have hung a stay out sign on a tree facing my property. (I have never been in her yard). They have also hung a large sponge Bob doll on a tree facing my property. (She thinks this bothers me). They hired someone to come and turn their fence around so that the bad side faces me (she thinks this bothers me too). She yells at me obsenities. She says to me "You and your perfect yard". She drew a chalkline in front of my house and wrote "15 feet" . I could go on and on. Obviously this woman has serious problems or is very jealous. My problem is they have a very large scrub pine tree which overhangs my property by twenty feet. One day during a storm a very large limb cracked but was still attached to their tree which landed in my yard and caused roughly $300 worth of damage. We asked them if they were going to take care of this they said "You have the means, you do it". To me this tree is very dangerous. I know I can trim the branches that overhang my property, but they are about twenty feet up. I called a tree company and they said they would need permission to be on their property to trim the branches. Do you really think they would let me do that? What I really want to know is what are my rights here.
P.S. Most of the block has a problem with her. |I am just the lucky who lives next to her!

    Hello girl:

Do I think they'll let the tree trimmers on their property?? Are you kidding?? They don't need to be on HER property to trim the branches on YOUR side. If they can't do that from YOUR yard, I'd call somebody who can.

She sounds borderline szichophrenic. Why not call a surveyor out and have him post those lovely orange flags to show her exactly where the property line is. I agree with excon, have them trimmed from your side - don't ask her permission or get her involved in any way. Do you belong to a POA?
