    Shop Opening Times (In England)
    Ok, I was wondering if someone could explain this to me;

    24 Hour Spar stays open 24 Hours (but only sells booze at certain times).

    24 Hour Tesco has to close at midnight on Saturday night (into Sunday) and then at 1600 on Sunday afternoon (and also only sells booze at certain times.

    Now... with 24 hours licencing laws in effect COULD both stores sell booze throughout the day and night (meaning they are choosing not to!) and why does Tesco have to close early? Are they also choosing to do that?

    Cheers Guys!

    J

    The Sunday Shopping legislation rules that large shops (over 280 sq meters) can only be open for 6 consecutive hours on Sunday between 10am and 6pm (the shop can choose which 6 hours). The spar is probably smaller than the size that this applies to.

    Don't know about the booze issue though :)

    Yeah, the Spar is a 'corner-shop' where as the Tesco is a proper supermarket!

    Now 24 hours licencing ONLY applies to ON trade, i.e. Pubs, clubs etc.
    The OFF trade hasn't changed at all.

    The Sunday trading laws apply to shops over a certain size, hence why your local Spa, Coop, etc will be open all the time and Tesco, etc have limited hours they can trade.
