Roommate is threatening to throw us out or better yet turn off the electric.
I moved into my roommates apt back in Sept 2010. The deal was I would pay $200 to her and she was to use it towards electric and cable. My boyfriend, myself, and our two month old daughter live here, also. She gets $360 to pay towards the electric and cable now. But everymonth she complains to me that she doesn't have the money for the electric. Like a dumbass I pay it so that is close to $500 a month that she gets. Now she has told the landlord she is moving out come the first of the year so we are going to be taking over her lease. Now she lost her keys so I called the landlord to have the locks changed and told her since she lost them she needs to pay for a copy of keys for herself. She is now telling me as of Monday there will no longer be any electric. She knows I only get money on the first of the month. I have no family or friends who can help. What are my options? Can she do this to me? I am not on her lease but we are signing one come Jan 1st.

If the electric is under her name she can do watever she wants but if she dose get it cut off you would have to have a lease to go and put the utility under your name.if there is no lease you would have to have that landlord sign a notorized paper saying that u live there with how ever many people and how much you pay a month

Pay a deposit and put the utilities in your name.

Yes. As long as failure to pay is not for the purpose of ousting you, she has no duty to you to pay her own utilitity bill.
