    Also - (a) what state is this in and (b) how long has it been since you lived there? If you walked away 10 years ago and are just now asking to retrieve your things that's a different situation than if you left just last week.

    I agree, too much information needed. Depending on what you haven't told us yet... you may or may not have property to retrieve.

    First, any question on law needs to include your general local as laws vary by area. Second, as others have noted, we need to know more about the circumstances. When did you reside there? For how long? What were the circumstances in which you vacated? How long ago was that? Do you have any proof you resided there or still have belongings there?
