Neighbors from Hell! The Cops called over corn!
    Hello everyone!

I am desperate so I am glad to have found this site.

I will be as brief as possible. :)

So I live next to the neighbors from hell. This is a development and they have 2 beagles. They have an invisible fence and the dogs have fun run of the yard and will bark at the air. This is from 6:45 am -12 midnight.

By asking them nicely to PLEASE stop the dogs from barking she told my husband she would kick his A**. WHen they went on vacation and her father watched the dogs there was no barking. But she just opens the door and lets them out.

Well, our property backs up to the park and yes we feed the birds and bunnies, squirrels. Everyone has feeders out. Well, evidently one of her dogs got scratched in the eye by a raccoon and she came to my home (during our garage sale) and was screaming at my husband and telling him it was our fault and she was calling animal control on us

She left and we called animal control. They knew us because we had complained once before about their dogs and he went and warned them. (they were not told it was us but I am sure they assumed) Anyway there are no laws against feeding and as long as we are not housing or caging them then there is nothing wrong.

Well she called the police on us and they were here in 10 min. taking pictures of the corn and of my home, took my SS#, name, etc. and took up 2 hrs of my time. I told the police that we called and there were no laws against it but he still had to "do his job". Which after him looking it up on the computer, calling numerous people TRYING to find some law he returned and told us that there was no law BUT it could be considered "littering".

We are planning to move in the Spring due to these people and my development association won't do anything and it has just escalated.

    Any advice? Thanks!
    Jenny

First there is no law about feeding the animals and it is no littering. The next time they call the police tell them they are not welcome on your property (Trespassing), and you don't have to give them any information about yourself.

Ok WHY should YOU move? You shouldn't have to. THEY should. Clearly they are douches and disrespectful. Go to your local police station and talk to an officer about all the problems your having. If you tell them everything you could get them evicted or forced by the law to move. You can't threaten someone and get away with it. Maybe even get a camera and hide it somewhere so it can catch that women being retarded. If it were me, id try to give her a dose of her own med's just because if you don't they will continue to be this way and get worse. YOU shouldn't have to move. Make them move. It may seem sueless but my fiancé and I would get back at them by getting them evicted and well I would hope they go homeless... they deserve it.

    Hello Jenny:

In the world, there are intimidators, and there are the intimidated. You're the latter. If you want to fix what's wrong, fix that. Buy a book by Robert Ringer, called "Winning Through Intimidation", and follow it to the letter.

I have to agree with you excon.

I don't get it. Jenny, are you throwing corn or loose feed into an area outside of your property line? That is the only thing the cops can get you on. They can't write you up for littering for putting a feeder up on your property. Were your neighbors dogs barking while the cops were there for 2 hours? Dogs incessant barking is considered a noise problem and I am surprised they didn't put your neighbors on notice. I am sure there are laws in place in your municipality regarding this. It is comes under the "quiet enjoyment" rules. Look it up. File a complaint against them with the police. I don't understand why your development association isn't doing anything about this. Aren't all your other neighbors annoyed by the dogs barking? This whole thing just isn't logical and doesn't make sense to me. If everyone is that irrational in your area, if it were me, I would move too.

    HI Everyone!

Thanks for all your great answers and EXCON, I will get that book, thanks!

We feed in our yard not on theirs. I have no idea why the cops came out since there is no laws against it.

I found out that she had called the animal control first and they told her no laws so she was angry and called the police. This is a small town and the cops are all like Elmer Fudd and thought this was the crime of the century. You should have seen the way the cop acted. UGH

My development does nothing. They have no bylaws against barking dogs. Only on excessive poop! LOL I have already tried that route.

The dogs weren't barking when the cops were here because naturally she kept them inside. They come out and bark at flies, the wind, people, etc.

One neighbor told me she told the man (Kermit) that she would mace his dogs the next time they came lunging at her. But see everyone here would rather just cross the road to avoid the confrontation. I, unfortunately live right next to them. When the dogs are at their property line (which is where he buried the invisible fence) they are 10 feet from my home. My hub works nights so you can imagine the problem this is for him. He has to sleep with ear plugs.

Anyway, I hired an attorney and he is going to send them a cease and desist letter today and tell them to also stop making false claims to the authorities. He agreed that the police shouldn't have even come out because she had already been told by the Animal Control that there was no law against feeding animals.

We have had no contact with this woman in a couple of years and now because she doesn't watch her dogs I am getting harassed by the cops and wasting 2 hrs of my life. UGH
They will never move. They are from Mississppi and not that there is anything wrong with that but now they think they are living in the lap of luxury. We are just sick of it and really just want to get out of this home now.

    Thanks for everyone's comments.

I am glad that you finally went to a lawyer. That was the absolute right move.
