    Medi-Cal SSI recipient gets inheritance
Hello: We have been getting conflicting information. My roommate is currently receiving Medi-cal and SSI. He is the beneficiary of a trust and is about to receive an inheritance. Getting the money will disqualify him from his benefits. He cannot afford to loose the Medi-cal. Can his inheritance be put into a trust? Some people have said yes, and some no. If he can do a trust, does he do it before or after he gets the money? I appriciate any help we can get.

    Hello eight:

The trust, in and of itself, would disqualify him. It would be easy for the state to prove that he put the money in trust in order to keep his qualification, because that's exactly why he did it.
